DANCE

We are proudly a safe and caring dance studio and we ensure our classes and performances are age appropriate. We strive to positively encourage every dancer to develop a love of dance as well as nurturing the professional technique and skills required to reach their potential.

Our passionate and qualified teachers provide each student the opportunity to develop skills and reach their personal best in an enjoyable, stimulating and Christian environment.

Classes are conducted in a state of the art Performing Arts complex, located in Bray Park on the Genesis Christian College campus, just 10 minutes from Albany Creek or Strathpine, on Brisbane’s northside.

Tiny Stars

3 years old

Held during the day (9.30am Tuesday) Tiny Stars classes are designed to engage our youngest male and female dancers from age 3 and develop a love of dance. With age-appropriate choreography and kind, gentle dance instructors, your child is sure to love our Tiny Stars class. Students attend the class independently, although we understand little ones sometimes need a familiar face to help them settle in. Students progress from this class into Come Dance With Me.

Come Dance With Me

4 – 5 years old

Following on from Tiny Stars, Come Dance With Me develops the creativity and free movement of the individual student through a dance enrichment program based on experiential learning through music and movement. Classical and jazz techniques are incorporated and prepare the student for progression to RAD Ballet or CSTD Jazz, Tap and other dance genres. There is the opportunity for a class performance style examination at the end of each level as a memorable close to their time in the Come Dance with Me program.

RAD Ballet

Ballet has long been accepted as a vital form of training for all dance genres. Along with the enjoyment of learning ballet, come many skills and disciplines including posture development, flexibility, endurance and muscle, balance and strength development, physical fitness and artistic appreciation. GDA uses the world’s leading classical ballet syllabus, The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD). Each year students who have satisfied the Total Qualifying Teaching Time requirement and have demonstrated familiarity and confidence with the syllabus will be invited to undertake exams. A minimum of 2 x 1 hour classes per week and the completion of a holiday workshop program will be necessary to meet the standard RAD Total Qualifying Teaching Time required for an examination for grade levels. Weekly class hour requirements are increased with Vocational grades (Intermediate Foundation and above).

Open Ballet

Open Ballet class is for ballet dancers of high school age and above who are not pursuing exams and pointe training, but are seeking advanced ballet instruction. This may be due to their role in performance or Eisteddfod teams or the GCC Dance Company, or may simply be to reignite their love for ballet and brush up on their skills. This class will require enrolment and is not a “drop-in” style class.

CSTD Jazz

Jazz dance is a form of dance that combines both African and European dance styles. This high-energy dance has a liveliness that sets it apart from traditional dance forms, such as classical ballet. While Jazz provides an exciting way to exercise and get fit, it is also a means of developing skill, strength, balance, stamina, co-ordination and self-confidence. The Comdance Syllabus is contemporary, technically challenging and a great preparation in all forms of jazz for today’s performance demands.

CSTD Tap

Tap dance is a dance style characterized by tapping sounds made with the feet, which are made possible by wooden-soled tap shoes with metal taps attached to the toes and heels. Tap dance is known for its syncopated, catchy beats and improvisational choreography, which links it to jazz music. Tap classes enhance a student’s co-ordination, rhythm and musicality, which will assist in developing other dance styles. The Comdance syllabus offers a complete training package with graduated exercises, amalgamations & dances suited to the target age group.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a style of interpretive dance that embraces innovation, blending techniques from various genres. This genre of dance, which focuses more on floor work over leg work and pointe, isn’t restricted by the rules that govern traditional dance forms. Instead, it relies on improvisation and versatility and is characterized by freedom of movement and fluidity, letting dancers explore the mind-body connection and ideally evoking emotion in the audience.

Lyrical

Lyrical dance is a form of dance that combines aspects of modern dance, ballet, acrobatics, jazz dance, and other dance styles. Fluidity, strong emotions, and physicalising of song lyrics are distinguishing elements of lyrical dance choreography. Stylized, expressive, and fluid, lyrical dance is a type of creative movement dance that incorporates a variety of dance techniques.

Hip Hop

Hip hop dance is a style of street dance form that evolved from hip hop culture and hip hop music. It borrows elements from a number of different styles like African dance, tap, and ballet. Our hip hop classes involve choreography, along with various points of improvisation. Currently classes operate at Level 3-4 and Level 5, most suited to students aged 9 and above.

Acrobatic Arts

AcroDance is an exquisite blend of classic dance techniques with the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements. Characterised by its distinctive choreography, acro dancers skilfully integrate musicality, emotional expression, line, and extension, seamlessly incorporating acrobatic movements within a dance context. AcroDance is not a series of skills and tricks to be showcased as you would see in gymnastics, it is an extension of dance skills and techniques. As a result, Acro requires a certain level of understanding and execution of dance technical ability and artistry in order to gain the most effective training.
